West Coast and Central Florida Power Utility Customers were recently able to receive solar water heater and solar panel system rebates for systems installed in their homes and businesses from Florida Power and Light.
The June 21st, 2011 deadline to act has now lapsed but if you didn't get a chance to take advantage of the incentives offered by FPL, then you have another opportunity for upcoming power utility incentives in October.
The Florida State Public Service Commission has approved a the Solar Rebate program as part of it's 5-year pilot program. If you were an FPL customer who was interested in taking part in the incentive then you needed to act fast! On a first-come, first-served basis, FPL was giving away $15.5 million approved by the PSC for 2011, for solar system expenses. Similar programs offered by Progress Energy and Tampa Electric Company gave away their money in three days on similar rebate programs for solar panels.
FPL customers were able to apply until June 21, 2011, according to FPL, their customers were able to do several things to prepare for the solar power system $15.5 million rebate give away.
Find a good contractor to install your solar power energy system. Customers should shop around to find a good licensed contractor, making appointments with two or more at the property where their custom solar power system will be installed to get quotes and details. "These projects can require a significant investment, and customers should make sure and do their homework to research various contractors and options," said FPL Spokesman Mark Bubriski. "They will need specific information about the installation from a contractor in order to complete the rebate application."

Florida Power and Light offered the following rebates:
$1,000.00 to residential customers who install solar water heaters. $2.00 per watt and up to $20,000.00 for residential customers who install solar panels. $50,000.00 per property and up to $150,000.00 for all properties to businesses who install solar water heaters or solar panels.
FPL were also paying for some new low-income housing homes solar water heater installations through another process. Through this same process solar panels were able to be installed into public schools!
